Whether Disney has a clue as to what they are doing with their newly acquired Fox properties or not, Deadpool 3
seems to be moving forward. According to Deadline
, writers Wendy Molyneux and Lizzie Molyneux-Loeglin are hired to write Deadpool 3
with Ryan Reynolds set to come back as the anti-hero.
The Molyneux sisters are probably best known as writers and executive producers of the animated hit series Bob's Burgers on Fox. They have won an Emmy Award for it in 2017 and have been nominated for an Emmy for either straight years. They are also creators, showrunners, and executive producers of the new Fox series The Great North, premiering in February 2021.
Deadline reports that meetings between Reynolds and different screenwriters have happened over the last month, where he heard multiple pitches for the next movie. He and Marvel Studios - their first time working together on this franchise - decided that the sisters are the perfect fit for the project.
Deadpool 2 director David Leitch does not appear to be returning to direct the third installment. Deadline says that his schedule is filled through 2021, and given that he wasn't part of the team looking for new writers, it seems unlikely he will come back.
The biggest question is how does Disney handle a property like Deadpool. It's hard to say if they will keep Deadpool as an R-rated property or if they will keep their quota of not having any R rated Marvel films. That answer will not be solved for a while, but maybe these writers will have something prepared in case Deadpool goes from R to PG-13.
