In case anyone may care about my opinion, I no longer care about the
Fantastic Beasts franchise after watching
The Crimes Of Grindewald. There's even a full Off The Break Podcast
episode that explains how bad I thought it was. SSI has other episodes that further explain our
bitterness toward the franchise.
We also could care less about Johnny Depp being asked to step down from the role after losing a legal battle with a British tabloid for labeling him a "wife-beater" in articles about his rocky marriage with Amber Heard.
I promise this isn't just an excuse to promote SSI's podcast (though you should check it out), there is a point to all this.
Yesterday
Deadline reported that actor Mads Mikkelsen is in early talks to replace Johnny Depp as Grindelwald. Sources say that he is director David Yates' top choice for the role, and they are making sure he signs up quickly as they are currently in production now.
I'm sure he will be great. Mikkelsen is best known for playing villains very well (Casino Royale, Doctor Strange) so this shouldn't be a problem for him. The only problem will be if he gets handed a worse script than The Crimes Of Grindelwald. Still, Harry Potter fans weren't happy with Depp taking the role of Grindelwald due to his ongoing rumors of him abusing Amber Heard, so this should make them happier. This probably will be better for the franchise in the long run.
