'A Quiet Place' Spinoff Is In The Works Because Everything Original Has To Be A Franchise

I have a deep love and admiration for John Krasinski's A Quiet Place. I thought his idea of making practically a silent horror film was a stroke of genius. I've been skeptical of A Quiet Place Part II because I selfishly want some things to be left alone and not become a franchise. I remain hopeful that the sequel will work because Krasinski still wrote and directed it.

But this news of a spinoff movie in what I'm now deeming the "Quiet Place Universe" has me more nervous that this great film will become another tiresome franchise. While the spinoff supposedly came from Krasinski's mind, it will have writer/director Jeff Nichols at the helm instead. He is the man behind critically acclaimed films Mud (2013) and Loving (2016).

Could Nichols pull it off? I suppose so, I don't see why not. But it still doesn't take away from me wanting a great movie to be left alone and become another franchise that loses its luster too late. Maybe A Quiet Place Part II can change that, but I also said the same thing about Terminator: Dark Fate, so the jury is still out.
