If a name like The Hunt looks familiar, its probably because you saw that this movie was supposed to be released September 2019. However, "controversy" surrounded the film so much that Universal decided to find a different release date. Tensions were high in the media when conservatives thought it was an attack from the liberals of Hollywood while those on the other side thought it was the liberals being attacked. So who was right in all this?

The answer: no one!

No one on any political side should feel attacked because The Hunt plays fair to both sides. It's easy to tell that the filmmakers behind this wanted to make a political satire that makes fun of everyone's political stances. While some of the jokes are a bit on the nose, there are still many others that work well in a way that's tongue-in-cheek. The Hunt's sense of humor branches out to all types of political viewpoints, but it only works if you're willing to laugh along or not.

But even if a joke or two is about to rub someone the wrong way, clever and well-directed action sequences could help them relax. While the mindless action is a key part of the movie's events, it does also act as a buffer after a joke becomes one too many. If you feel like you need a break from the political humor, then the action will help bring in a different set of laughs.

The film starts out as a group of rich liberals kidnap 12 commoners to hunt and kill for sport. Despite there being 12, we end up following a woman named Crystal (Betty Gilpin) who tracks down the leader of the liberal hunters named Ms. Big (Hilary Swank). Gilpin gives the type of performance that can turn someone into a movie star. She owns every scene she is in and makes a caricature become a three-dimensional person. Meanwhile, Hilary Swank is brilliant as she somehow leans into the joke of it all while being a threatening figure.

I see this as another case of people overreacting to a film's trailer without seeing the movie. I would say give it a chance because as long as people are aware that The Hunt is trying to make everyone laugh, then anyone can join in on the joke. The Hunt only hopes to make everyone laugh and have a good time, which does not seem controversial to me.
