We got more casting news for The Batman, everyone!
According to The Wrap
, Andy Serkis is in talks to play Alfred Pennyworth in Matt Reeve's The Batman
. The movie already stars Robert Pattinson as Batman, Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman, Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner Gordon, and Paul Dano as The Riddler.
Andy Serkis previously worked with Matt Reeves in Dawn of the Planet of the Apes and War for the Planet of the Apes, which are pretty terrific movies in my opinion. Hearing that Serkis is teaming with Reeves again definitely makes me excited (on top of hearing more Batman casting). While I do like hiring Serkis, I was surprised to hear it was for the role of Alfred. I figured Serkis would get a villain role like The Penguin instead. I was also low-key hoping Jeremy Irons would come back to reprise the role of Alfred, but I knew in hindsight that wasn't happening.
But I'm still happy to have Serkis attached to this. Not only will he be paired again with Reeves, but he has already proven how versatile an actor he is in live-action (Black Panther, The Prestige) and motion capture (The Lord Of The Rings, Planet Of The Apes).
It only goes to show that Reeves is getting as much talent as possible to his Batman movie to help spawn a new franchise. As excited as I am to see these names coming aboard, I hope Reeves himself delivers on a fresh and new Batman movie through his writing and directing. Until I see that he does, I'm happy to see a familiar face for Reeves like Andy Serkis joining the cast.
