Coming of age movies seem to be making a comeback of sorts, due to having Booksmart earlier this year and now Good Boys. The film is a coming of age flick centered around sixth graders learning how to kiss for a party they are invited to, which only escalates to a crazy adventure where they learn about things that they may be too young for.

What makes this movie so hilarious will also cause many to not want to see this movie  While there is an audience for raunchy R-rated comedies, there'll be plenty of people who choose to pass on seeing tweens swear and learn about sex toys. It's understandable, but I promise the humor does not run dry.

The jokes also land because of the chemistry that exudes between Jacob Tremblay, Keith L. Williams and Brady Noon. It helps the audience believe that they are all best friends, which makes watching their big adventure worthwhile. Their comedic timing between each other is crazy good, allowing the jokes to become even funnier. That doesn't take away from their individual moments, which are just as funny. Showing the leads independently also helps us relate to them separately, and not just as a group. This comes into play with the message of the movie.

Despite the laughs coming from kids playing with things like dildos and sex swings, there is an underlining message that I think will surprise audiences. On their grand adventure, they come to learn the reality that some friendships naturally fade away. While they deny that and continue to prove how close they are, the movie helps show their individuality and you realize that it's possible for their's to fade too. It's a downer of a message for a comedy, but I think it hits home thanks to how attached we become to their friendship. This powerful message helps make this more than just another comedy. In fact, it makes it one of the stronger comedies I've seen in a while.

Good Boys has plenty of laughs for everyone, with jokes that don't get stale thanks to the talent that comes from our three young leads. But what makes this comedy work is its message of friendships evolving, and see how kids learn to deal with that reality. So don't be scared off by its sense of humor, because there is more to Good Boys than just that.
