I'm really excited to talk about this one. The Los Angeles Online Film Critics Society has announced its winners for the year, and its a selection that I personally love seeing.

One of the most underrated films of the year in The Hate U Give was able to secure many awards here, including Best Picture, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Supporting Actor and Best Breakthrough Performance. Amandla Stenberg and Russell Hornsby gave some of the best performances of the year as daughter & father struggling to do the right things for their race differently while being supportive in their decisions. Another personally favorite of mine is Hereditary, which finally gives a Best Actress award to Toni Collette, as well as one to co-star Alex Wolff. Toni Collette gives a fantastic, raw performance as a loving, yet flawed mother who is emotionally broken due to circumstance in a horror film that really puts you in the most uncomfortable feeling. So really, please check out The Hate U Give and Hereditary when you get a chance.

Besides those two criminally forgotten films, there are plenty of awards contenders who got mentioned. Films such as The Favourite, If Beale Street Could Talk and ROMA are all still mentioned, and help ensure their chances at an Oscar. Not to mention plenty of commercial favorites are on this list such as Mission: Impossible - Fallout and A Quiet Place that should could keep getting more awards.
